In January I went to rural Western Uganda in the first stage of an ongoing partnership project between a group of widows who are trying to set up a small-scale market garden project there, and the Market Garden.
I have now pitched in an application for the second stage of the project, which would consist of me making a return visit to Uganda accompanied by someone else from the Market Garden, to mentor the Ugandan women as they actually take their produce to market, and assist them to increase sales and maximise potential income from their produce.
We will also be looking at opportunities for small-scale processing, for example their groundnuts being made into peanut butter, to increase profit margins.
